New Government Benefit Amounts (CPP & OAS)

 Government Plans

For 2004, highlights of changes in CPP (“Canada Pension Plan”) and Old Age Security (“OAS”) are:

 

Ø       the Year’s Maximum Pensionable Earnings (“YMPE”) is $40,500;

Ø       the maximum CPP pension is $9,770.00 per year ($814.17 per month) for retirement in 2004;

Ø       the employee and employer each contributes 4.95% of earnings between $3,500 (the Year’s Basic Exemption, or “YBE”) and the YMPE.  The maximum CPP employee / employer contribution is $1,831.50 each

Ø       the maximum OAS pension is $462.47 per month for the first quarter of 2003.
